WHAT a weekend! Burgers, booze and banging beats galore – this year’s legendary Grillstock Manchester event was definitely one to remember.

Albert Square’s annual festival of meat, music and mayhem certainly didn’t disappoint the forage of impressed party-goers with its popular display of pork ribs, chicken wings and beef briskets.

Thousands turned out in force over the Saturday and Sunday to enjoy an array of activities including live music from Pop Up Elvis and Big Joe Bone and a chilli and a hot wing competition.

Even staff got into the swing of things with members of the official festival cider sponsors Lazy Jack’s showing off their moves.

Staff at the new Halewood International brand had bags of enthusiasm and entertained punters with their fun-loving approach to the festival fun.

Even the sun broke through the clouds on Sunday making it an idyllic setting for the BBQ bake off.

Tracey Thorpe and daughter Abby from Droylsden attended all weekend and said they can’t wait for next year’s festival already.

Tracey said: “We had so much fun, it went far to fast for my liking. It was the perfect girly day out, we came both days at 11.30am and stayed all day, we didn’t want to leave.

“There was so much to do, I especially loved the apple bobbing. I’m gutted it’s over for another year now but we have so many fantastic memories.”

More than 40 bands and 8 DJs entertained audiences throughout the course of the weekend with a soundtrack of American rock, funk, blues and country to match the BBQ styles of food.

And nearly 30 teams fired up the coals in this year’s competition BBQ rounds, with their food being judged by the elite of the Americana food scene.

Visitors were also able to pick up some cooking tips at Weber’s BBQ Academy or they could head to the stage to watch Buffalo Wing, chilli and hotdog eating competitions.
It has become a major event in the barbecue world, with teams competing from across the UK to be named ‘king of the grill’ for their meaty wares.
