As the long school summer holiday gets underway, MediaCityUK is gearing up for a week-long extravaganza of family friendly events that’ll transform the media and creative hub into KidCityUK from 5 – 11 August; as part of the ‘Summer in the City’ calendar of events.

Award winning drama and dance school Footlights (based at MediaCityUK) is running an exciting programme of FREE daily events on the Piazza (Mon 5 – Fri 9 Aug) – the heart of KidCityUK, including puppet making, half hour long zumba and street dance classes, interactive storytelling with Willy Wonka, as well as a family treasure hunt and storytelling with a pirate and the princess. On the final day parents and children alike will learn songs from the hit musicals; Glee and Matilda. Activities will run from 12 noon – 4pm Monday to Friday.

On Sat 10 and Sun 11 August the week of excitement will culminate with CBBC Shaun the Sheep Championsheeps Live on the Piazza – with a wide range of sports taster sessions. Running alongside the sporting theme; families will be able to follow stars of the London 2012 Olympics at the World Athletics Championships in Moscow on the big screen and older children can try their hand as a sports commentator with BBC Sport’s Interactive Challenge.

Jo Fisher, Founder of Footlights Theatre which is based at MediaCityUK said: We’ve been running dance and drama inspired events for children for eight years, so we know what will engage them and fuel their creativity. It will be particularly exciting for them to be in the MediaCityUK environment and we’re sure the events will prove popular.”

Director Peter Salmon from the BBC said: “BBC North’s commitment to our Salford neighbours has never been stronger. Following our support of events around Women’s Euros earlier this summer in the piazza, BBC Children’s and BBC Sport will continue to create a real buzz on the piazza this summer.”

A detailed listing of events can be found on:  http://www.mediacityuk.co.uk/destination/whats-on Tickets for all events are FREE, but the events taking place from Mon to Fri, require all participants to register for a FREE ticket at: http://kidcityuk.eventbrite.co.uk/ as numbers are limited for each session.

‘Summer in the City’ events are being delivered by MediaCityUK owners Peel, in partnership with on-site occupiers the BBC and with support from Salford City Council and Metrolink.
