Foodie 101 – Good Food Guide 2014 serves up great options for dining out in the North West

– Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume takes number one spot –

Waitrose Good Food Guide(1) has today announced 15 new entries from the North West in the 2014 edition(2) of the guide which is published on 9th September. The guide reflects the high standard of dining in the North West as a total of 91 restaurants, pubs and cafés from across the region are included in the UK’s bestselling restaurant guide.

New entries in the North West(3) who have landed a spot in Waitrose Good Food Guide 2014 are:

The Greyhound Inn in Saughall, Sticky Walnut in Chester and La Boheme in Heatley, all in Cheshire; The Plough in Lupton, Cumbria; Albert Square Chop House, Damson, The Rose Garden, Wing’s, Yuzu and The French, all in Manchester; Hearth of the Ram in Ramsbottom; The Assheton Arms in Downham, Lancashire; The Clove Hitch and Delifonseca Dockside (which earlier this year won the Readers’ Restaurant of the Year Award), both in Liverpool, and Nova in Heswall, Merseyside.

Simon Rogan’s restaurant The French, based at the Midland Hotel, has also been awarded the impressive accolade of Best New Entry in the Waitrose Good Food Guide 2014. The restaurant has gone straight into the guide’s Top 50 restaurant listing.

Simon Rogan is dominating dining in the region; in addition to The French grabbing the number 12 slot in the Top 50 list, his restaurant L’Enclume in Cartmel, Cumbria has for the first time this year taken the prestigious number one place in the ranking, toppling Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck after six years at the top and making L’Enclume the best restaurant in the country according to the Good Food Guide 2014.

Three other restaurants in the North West have also made it on to the Top 50 listing – Fraiche in Merseyside at number 23, the Freemasons at Wiswell which is a new entry to the list at 42 and Simon Radley at the Chester Grosvenor at 47.

The region is also home to some of the longest serving restaurants in the Good Food Guide(3);Quince & Medlar in Cumbria has been listed in the guide for 25 years, ramsons in Ramsbottom and Northcote in Lancashire have both featured for 27 years consecutively, Farlam Hall in Cumbria has clocked up 37 years while Sharrow Bay, also in Cumbria, has been included in the Good Food Guide for an impressive 53 years.
