This month saw the opening of the new Alchemist at MediaCity – and it certainly won’t go unnoticed.
Sitting in a prime location between The Lowry Theatre and MediaCityUK, the £1.2m development’s futuristic, angular gold cladded building gleams against the waterfront.
Inside, it is what you expect from The Alchemist – cool opulent features, slick service and a cocktail menu that is out of this world.
We visited for brunch and weren’t disappointed. The menu featured all of the usual suspects (avocado anyone?), but with some other delights thrown in – including Mish Mosh … a delicious combination of eggs, chorizo sausage, cheese, bacon, spinach and mushrooms served with a side of toast. I would definitely recommend. The steak, eggs and hash browns were also sublime – the cut, seasoning and cooking of the steak making a simple dish, simply delicious.
Now seeing as it was pretty early and we were with child (more on that later), we (reluctantly) politely declined the cocktail menu (it was very tempting nonetheless).
One of my major reservations about a weekend brunch at the Alchemist was – was it a place to go with a two year old in tow?! I’m not going to lie – it’s somewhere that I would happily head to with the girls for some leisurely boozy brunching – it has never been a venue that has screamed ‘child friendly’ to me.
I couldn’t have been more wrong … we were greeted by the hostess with a smile, a high chair and some colouring crayons and made to feel very welcome. The toddler’s scrambled egg, beans and toast went down a treat and it was one of the smoothest eating out experiences we’ve had in a while. Full points on the (stylish) family friendly front.
All in all, the Alchemist is a welcome sophisticated addition to MediaCity and we will certainly be heading back to get stuck into that cocktail menu.
