AS the summer sun shone over the city’s skyline, socialites came out in their droves to celebrate the opening of the new skinny-style restaurant Wahu.

Spinningfield’s latest addition boasts of its low-calorie alternative menu for foodies who want fast-food which wont make them fat fast.

And judging by the vast turn-out of perfectly toned party people, including Manchester’s very own celebrity designer Nadine Merabi, who turned out to show her support on Wednesday night, it’s already a healthy hit.

Showing off its skinny prosecco and lean lamb salad, the delicious deli proved its a big contender for the city’s competition.

Young entrpreneur Jamie Barr thought up the idea when he noticed a lack of quick healthy food options within the city centre.

He said: “After leaving university I was busy working, socialising and trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle but the restaurant options in Manchester city centre didn’t cater for this.

“Whether it is catching up with friends, working late, going to the gym or attending networking events, there is always something to keep young professionals busy – I wanted to create something that fitted into this lifestyle while still being a healthy choice.

“Wahu is a unique concept for Manchester and I am looking forward to welcoming in new customers now that we’re open.”

Wahu is aimed at focussing on providing high quality fresh food, including chicken, beef, salmon and halloumi, all prepared to order on the restaurant’s grill and then added to a base of either salad, white or brown rice, who-wheat pasta or a wrap.

Providing breakfast, lunch and dinner options seven days a week, the new eatery offers a wide range of food that is healthy, satisfying and full of flavour, with the choice to dine in or take out.

And not only does it provide a vast array of juices and smoothies but it also serves up more virtuous versions of alcoholic beverages.

And friends at the opening on Wednesday night certainly loved the healthy option, including Jamie’s friend, personal trainer Matt Baker who tweeted: “Great set up down at @WahuFood ! Perfect for a healthy snack and meal if you are around spinningfields. Great work JB”

Wahu is open at 7am until 10pm Monday to Thursday, 7am until 11pm on Fridays, 10am until 11pm on Saturdays and 10am until 8pm on Sundays.
