We’d like to tell you a little about a fashion event that is close to our hearts and an initiative that is taking place throughout Manchester Arndale in late January this year; The Empty Shop.
For those of you that aren’t aware, The Empty Shop is a fashion event that encourages Mancunians to dig deep and donate unwanted or brad-new items of clothing to its specified ‘The Empty Shop Wardrobes’ which will be located all over Manchester Arndale from 19th January 2017 for ten days. All proceeds from the campaign will be donated to returning local charity; Mustard Tree and brand new charity partner for 2017; vInpired.
This year The Empty Shop is also working with renowned charity ‘Musicians Against Homelessness’ to raise awareness about the implications of homelessness and how we can help.
This year the amazing Rowetta, ambassador of Musicians Against Homelessness, has come on board to help spread the word and to drum up support from our caring community.
The Empty Shop has received an overwhelming response in the previous three years, which has seen donation of over 23,000 items of clothing and close to six tonnes.
Rowetta comments “With many wardrobes fit to burst following the Christmas and Boxing Day sales, it’s a great time of year to think about those that are less fortunate. Mancunians are renowned for pulling together as a community to help each other and I’m really pleased to be involved in The Empty Shop. Together with Musicians Against Homelessness, I hope that we can help to raise much-needed funds and awareness for Mustard Tree and Goodstock vInspired.”
Rowetta will be joined by local fashion bloggers, stylists and official compere JSky in Exchange Court on Thursday 19 January to launch the 2017 campaign, which runs from 20 – 29 January. Members of the public, local businesses and retailers will be able to drop off their quality pre-loved and unworn garments at specially designed ‘empty wardrobes’ conveniently located within 12 retailers, including Next, Luke, Simply Be, Dorothy Perkins and Burton.
Manchester artist and self-proclaimed doodler ‘Dave Draws’ will illustrate the wardrobes for the 2017 campaign and has also produced a limited edition tote bag available for the first 1,000 donators.
The donation points will be open for ten days and, at the end of the campaign, the clothing will be resold by Mustard Tree and Goodstock vInspired, with all proceeds split evenly between the two charities.
The Empty Shop donation points will take preloved clothing donations from Friday 20 January- Sunday 29 January 2017. For further information visit:www.manchesterarndale.com.
