Since returning to Manchester I’ve loved immersing myself back into the restaurant and bar scene. Truth be told, I can’t actually believe how much it’s changed whilst I’ve been away… Can so much really change in four years?
The short answer is yes! However there are some staples that have remained true to what they stand for and have stood the test of time. One of these is Grill on the Alley.
I was invited recently to come and sample its lunch time offering. I have to admit I was a little wary, I don’t like to take longer than my usual lunch hour as my day job working as a PR doesn’t really allow for it! I did express this and was advised that they’re really pushing their lunch menu, as they pride themselves on being able to provide a great lunch dining option, that is not only really tasty, but also affordable and can be turned around in over an hour! Good times!
I went on one of the days when the university students were graduating, so the restaurant was buzzing with atmosphere. I noticed that some diners were sampling the evening menu, who obviously had longer than an hour. I was advised that the customer has the option as to how quick they want their dining experience to be! Which I feel is pretty handy, as it opens up the lunch dining experience to so many more people.
I decided to go for the ‘Daily Special’ option, which was Pulled Pork and salt and pepper chips and homemade coleslaw… might I just start by saying, “WOW”
It came to my table within ten minutes of ordering and was not only presented wonderfully, but it smelled amazing and tasted soooooo good!
I partnered my meal with a house Pinot Grigio spritzer, the perfect accompaniment to an extra special lunch I feel… (when in Rome).
The dining experience was stress free, tasty and totally affordable. The whole experience was around 45 minutes, which left me with plenty of time to get to and from my office.
